Kasumi is the child of two great houses of warriors, the DeBlanc's and Amell's. One side bounty hunters, the other side monster hunters and with parents who were werewolves she was bound to have an eventful life. Headstrong to the point of overconfidence, Kasumi revels as a fighter and seeks to overcome any and all obstacles to live up to her families legacy. Still her tendency to miss that not everyone loves fighting as much has her has lead to an off and on rivalry with her cousins Nathan, Gallas and Andy.

Kasumi was the second child to Arthur and Maria, and along with her younger twin Rei Amell she had a unusual upbringing. Like all her siblings she would grow up in the Amell House until they moved to their new, larger home. She was often a very rambunctious child due to her active and over enthusiastic nature, she relished in exploring and discovering secrets and getting the drop on her siblings. Like most of her siblings she looked up to her parents and loved them dearly, with Kasumi finding the fact that they were super hero's awesome, often running to her mother or father as soon as they got home from saving the day and snuggling against their fur.
